Research Unit Of Medical And Pharmaceutical Sciences In the interest of developing and deepening the scientific research endeavor to cope with the international progression in different fields, and for the completion of the University’s tasks as being a light shed on science and education, the Research Centre in the CUC is assigned to implement that goal. The incurred expenditures in favor of the researches and scientific discoveries worldwide assure the priority for further support to the research sectors in different international companies and institutions, so that this priority shouldn’t be affected by any of the international economic crisis.
The experts see that the only solution for getting rid of such economic crisis is by expending more on the development of researches and that is deemed the only guarantee for a continuous development and innovation in all fields of life. Accordingly, the researches entitled to be implemented in the CUC will be planned due to the real needs of different medicinal and industrial sectors, which will further link the results of such researches to the community’s real needs, and which will ensure the main goal of the scientific research in developing innovative resources in several community service areas.
The Research Centre planning in the CUC comprises the following units:
The Medical Research Unit is set up to fit the interests of the students and the Faculty Staff working in the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physiotherapy who are keen to work in the field of scientific research, as well as the graduates who need to carry out their researches for postgraduate degrees, by using highly specialized laboratories as follows:
In all types of research, the Animal Laboratory is used to conduct research experiments. This is an important element in any research centre that is indispensable in all forms of scientific research, although there are recent trends to prohibit the use of animals in conducting research experiments that have already begun to be spread in many of developed countries all over the world.
The CUC, through a new technically developed Animal Lab, aims at assisting researchers and scholars in conducting basic and applied researches on vaccines, diagnostic tests of some rare diseases, as well as the treatment of some other human diseases.
The Animal Lab represents a part of the research effort against the emerging diseases that pose a threat to public health in our country and the rest of the world. This enables the Research Centre to be more dedicated to care for both the human and animal health through the exploratory research on diseases, mainly what is related to food safety and its subsequent impact on the economy of the country. Besides, as an economic stimulus, the Research Centre ensures strong relationships with both private and public research centers whether in our country or overseas.
The Animal Lab is designed to protect the researchers in the CUC and the surrounding community while conducting their works in it. This provides a safe environment for the researchers who work on the living organisms of the disease and attracts other researchers from industrial regions who are sharing the same interests.
This Unit includes a research laboratory for generating electricity from the solar energy, as well as researches for designing and developing the automatic control systems, robotics, remote sensing and the new materials research. Also, the Engineering & Technology Research Unit deals with the study of the new and renewable sources of energy, natural resources, desalination research, wastewater treatment using the modern technologies and nanotechnology. This Unit also conducts research in desertification. It has a complete set of laboratories as follows:
This Unit conducts researches in various applied fields including plant biotechnology, molecular biology, microbial biotechnology, industrial and environmental biotechnology, molecular diagnostics, as well as plant tissue culture testing on animals in the Animal Lab Unit in the CUC. Moreover, this Unit deals with the production of some plant compounds for the biological resistance of plant diseases rather than chemicals that have toxic effects on humans, animals and environment.
Furthermore, new specialized units are to be established to collect the genetic origins (bank of genes) from the horticultural crops through the Genetic Origins Unit to acquire desired genetic traits as the gene bank.
African Research and Studies Unit
It is a regional research unit concerned with the affairs of the African continent in its various dimensions and fields, whether strategic, political, social, economic, and cultural. The unit aims to deepen knowledge of African affairs, carry out research and studies on the African continent, document and publish it, and form researchers and specialists scientifically in its affairs. It also aims at pushing and strengthening Egyptian and Arab relations with Africa.
This Unit monitors the public opinion trends by analyzing the issues of interest in press, radio and television.
The students of the School of Mass Communication are trained in this Unit to prepare topics that reveal the community’s social, economic, cultural and political aspects that should be studied in cooperation with the media studies and research centers in other universities and institutions.
This Unit works to find optimal methods for the exploitation of energy in all its forms and natural resources without the imbalance of the environment to serve the industrial and agricultural sectors, as the progress in the industrial field has led to the expansion in extracting many natural resources, especially those non-renewable resources such as coal, petroleum and some crude minerals, in addition to the underground water, those ones that require long geological times for their formation and at the same time cannot have alternatives in human life.
This Unit also deals with the exploitation and development of renewable sources of energy such as wind energy and solar energy, for the purpose of generating electricity. It also deals with the nuclear energy researches for peaceful usage as well as the desalination researches to provide the essential elements for industrial and agricultural integrated developments.
This Unit aims at providing humans with a variety of non-financing services in order to support building the skills of the CUC graduates. This Unit also creates a strong database for the Small Projects in order to provide all information required for the policy makers, planners and banking sector and carries out various researches related to the Small Projects. It identifies trends recommended for the new fund programs and seeks to exchange experiences and suitable job opportunities emanating from the CUC specializations. Finally, it serves the CUC students to create a functional environment convenient with their future aspirations.
One of the main tasks of this Unit is to monitor, translate and announce the outcomes of all the new academic researches published in the special journals, periodicals, scientific thesis, research results and international conferences related to the different specializations in the CUC to be provided to the researchers whether from the faculty staff or from overseas.
The Publishing & Translation Research Unit supervises the publications, journals and books issued by the CUC.
This Unit is responsible for carrying out scientific studies and research on the issues of interest to the public and the decision-makers. It also measures the trends of the Public Opinion on some important topics by using the available resources for advanced analytical and practical studies, and carries out scientific studies in the fields of Public Opinion surveys and systematic assessments and finally develops the public assessment methods in order to reach the global standards of trust and credibility.
This Unit deals with the international political, economic and media issues and mainly with the Egyptian society. It regulates the labor market, the demographic composition within the human resource development and market contributions.
This Unit finally aims at preparing memorandums and studies that are made available to the relevant authorities such as the governmental bodies and institutions, the research centers and the universities in order to establish databases that put light on the Egyptian public Opinion trends.
