The duration of study at this School is five years.  The student’s specialization starts with the second academic year of study in the School of Engineering & Technology.

The School of Engineering & Technology awards a bachelor of sciences degree, master and doctorate degrees as is concerned to make collaboration of joint and/or dual program degrees with the top universities worldwide, as well as with the international research institutes.

The Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences:


The Electrical Engineering is referred to as being consisted of electrical and electronic engineering factors.  This specialization depends on both academic study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetic.  The electrical Engineering had been characterized as an independent science by the end of the 19th Century with the beginning of the commercial use of electricity, telegraph and all/every power & energy sources.  Nowadays, this Department comprises sub- branches, some of them are related to digital electricity power, computer sciences, artificial intelligence, control systems, electronics, signal systems and telecommunication.


The Computer Sciences or informatics is the science that studies data processing, computing, theories & applications that enter in the composition of the automated foundation of data transfer, operation and/or conversion, and that through studying programs and application basics, as well as the hardware components of computer.  The most important branches in this specialization are as follows:

  • Theoretical Informatics:It is the study of visual and theoretical languages of the computer as well as the calculation of costs.
  • Practical Informatics:It is the study of the translation of skills for visual and theoretical languages into applications very easy to be used and developed and be adequate with multiple areas of market.
  • Applied Informatics:It is the study that deals with different topics in computer in many fields of life, such as design, manufacture using computer, administration & industry systems.
  • Computer Engineering:It is the study that deals with manufacture of computers on the grounds of various theoretical information, physics, chemistry and electronics.


Throughout the course band of studies, the student is introduced to the math basics, computing, software, program translators, database, system types, computer configuration and software engineering.  It includes computer programs and software using program languages in addition the technology of artificial intelligence and computer graphics.

The Department of Communication Engineering & Electronics:

 This Department defines Communication as a process of sharing information.  It is often made up of interaction and connection segments using signal devices and is considered as an activity governed by the rules and the language.  Communication is also defined as a social activity in which two parties or more are able to participate in an interrelating set of signs and a common set of signals through a very simplified form.  In the communication process, data is sent from a transmitter or someone doing encoding or encryption by a receiver or decoder.  Within the most complex communication systems, the process takes place from a transmitter to a receiver and requires an encryption system in some cases through a certain language.


 The development of the means of Communication is a process intended to enable people to understand each other saying whether by symbols or writing or talking.  This process continues by transforming sounds and symbols into understanding meanings without ignoring the comprehensive language rules.  Communication also depends on an estimated concept that should take into consideration the desire of the ongoing social developments through time and place. This Department defines Electronic Engineering as the science related to the behavior and the impact of electrons, such as channels and transistors.  It includes the electronic devices, systems and equipment.  The term Electronic Engineering now has the meaning of a broad scale of scientific studies based on electrical engineering in the European countries and in the USA.  The study in the Electronic Engineering specialization is also related to the use of electronics in navigation and mobile communications, control of road stations, land/sea/air transport networks, which leads to economizing in fuel and electricity consumption.

Many universities in Egypt have departments of electronics and electrical engineering, and each of the two terms has its specific field based on a wider study of energy, hardware engineering, and telecommunication and semi-conductor circuits.


The Department of Mechatronics Engineering


This Department defines Mechatronics Engineering as the science that combines the study of mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, and software engineering and mainly based on the automated mechanics study.  The Department curricula rely on a controlled combination of electrical systems with mechanical systems.


This specialization had been defined by a Japanese Chief Engineer of “Yaskawa” company in 1969 mostly as being an electro-mechanical system rather than being a mere control mechanics system.  The robotics is considered the latest in this field depending on different control methods and an advanced transformation to the mechanism concept.

The graduate’s concern in this Department extends to reach factories, farms, clinics and is always related to work on high-tech and high-cost operating market, which in turn guarantees to the graduate a high level of income.


The Department of Civil Engineering & Construction:


This Department defines Civil Engineering & Construction as the science related to planning and managing constructional works for building projects, such as highways, bridges, airports, railways, dams and reservoirs.


The implementation of any project in this field is based on the fundamentals in engineering and the science of management which is interpreted by any/all means of administrative procedures, the basics of economics and the human behavior science.


 The specialization of Civil Engineering & Construction is considered as one of the largest industries that provide many jobs continuously.  Nowadays, millions of people work in the construction field in the USA, as this profession resulted in the highest incomes that can ever be imagined long ago.


The Department of Biomedical Engineering:


This Department defines Biomedical Engineering as the science dealing with human body study in terms of engineering, represented in a joining link between the sciences of medicine and engineering.  Accordingly, the student can identify the design of the living body organs by artificial limbs, organs and other medical devices.  This field is deemed one of the most important fields surging as a result of the modern medicine development.  Doctors, in most cases, need specialized and skilled engineers in medical device & equipment designs necessary for patient’s health and recovery.  In addition, the student in this Department is taught how to develop such devices according to medical knowledge on the human body mechanism adaptable with any/all relevant system or model.


The Biomedical Engineering Department is consisted of five branches as follows:

  • The biomedical electrical engineering comprising bioelectrical signals and bioelectrical effects sciences.
  • The biomedical engineering comprising biomechanics science that studies the movement and the nature of vital substances transmission through the human body, and biomechanics science that generally studies movement in human body and specifically movement disorders.

The Department of Architectural Engineering & Urban Planning:


This Department defines Architectural Engineering & Urban Planning as the application of skills derived from multiple engineering branches for the design, construction, operation, maintenance & development of buildings, taking into account the impact on the surrounding environment.  In some countries, such as Canada and the UK, architecture is defined as the building and construction engineering through the relevant systems and services.


Since the year 1990, Architectural Engineering was considered an independent branch in the USA.  Although many certificate holders in other engineering specializations such as civil, mechanical, electrical can work as architects, there is still an over demand for the architecture graduates in both the East and the West Coast regions in the United States.


The specialization of Urban Planning is defined to be the planning of land by all means of exploration, mainly for building purposes, to interpret the social environment localities and housing in communities.


In the 19th Century, Urban Planning began to be influenced by the concept of architecture with civil engineering, so that many city problems could be solved.  By the year 1960, the concept of Urban Planning expanded to include economic, social and environmental developments, and years later this combination played an important role in the function of Urban Planning process.  This, in turn, designated a renewed concept in the usage and method of Urban Planning implementation in terms of project restoration or reparation of demolished infrastructures in the cities.  By the continuity of the urbanization movement in the market of constructions nowadays, it has been clarified how important are the skilled graduates needed in that engineering field.


The Department of Energy & Desalination Engineering:


This Department defines Energy as the science working on a perfect use of energy in a high & secured effectiveness and productivity on the grounds of energy good exploitation.  This specialization varies from the advanced technical energy saving towards how to implement the optimum utilization and consumption of the ecologic systems.


As regards the Desalination Engineering, many countries in the world suffer from the decreasing or the short quantities of water necessary for agriculture and housing purposes, especially the scarcity of pure drinkable water.  Nowadays and due to the statistical high indication of deaths worldwide, the application of this science is growing in parallel with such expected water crisis that several governments face in relation to problems like overpopulation and the expensive costs of potable water.  Many countries in the Arab Gulf found some solutions by desalination of seawater, especially for the sake of some industrial areas.

The Desalination Engineering process requires high technologies in operation that can save in the consumption of energy as well as cost less money.  This science, as a very specific study, has some critical obstacles that need to be overcome, and this matter is deemed a major objective on the level of accurate and competent research discoveries, in order to find alternatives to energy problems in general, and especially within the desalination process.
