Professor John Denihi

He holds a Bachelor of Arts, College of Education, Dublin University, a Master's Degree in Educational Administration, College of Education, University of Dublin, and Leadership Program for the 21st Century, John F. Kennedy School of Government John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

He played an important role in international leadership in education, where he served as Chairman of the Education Committee of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris (1999-2006). For more than six years, he participated in the reorganization of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Education, and chaired the meetings of the revision of education systems in a large group of different countries on all continents. This has enabled Mr. Denihi to establish and develop close personal and working relationships with ministers of education and senior officials of ministries of education around the world.
During his tenure as Secretary-General of the Irish Ministry of Education and Skills, Professor Denihi gave priority to close cooperation with the European Union and other international organizations. The most important features of this participation were:
The successful leadership of Iranda in her educational presidency of the European Union in 2004
A major report on the internationalization of Irish education was published in 2005
Bilateral agreements with a group of countries not members of the European Union, including the United States, Malaysia, China, Mexico, India and Chile
Develop closer relations on education issues with several international bodies, including the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Council of Europe and UNESCO, and represent Ireland at the highest level in a wide range of international conferences, meetings and seminars
Professor Denihi has provided numerous studies in the field of education, including a wide range of reports, papers and articles on the education and reform strategy.
As for his membership in committees and councils, Professor Denihi continues to work extensively on Irish government committees and councils. He worked closely with the former President of Ireland on a number of major projects between 1999 and the end of her term in 2012.
He served as auditor on behalf of the Irish Government in connection with several high-level infrastructure projects. Professor Denihi is Chairman of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland www.nyoi.ie.
